  • Avoid arguing
  • Avoid affirming the paranoia / delusional thoughts
  • Focus on persons feelings, have empathy for emotions
  • Ask questions, let the person tell more about their fears: Why do you think that? Do you want to tell me more?
  • Help them feel safer and more comfortable
  • Help maintain a positive state of mind:
    • Model positive thinking
    • Model optimism
  • Help put into perspective
  • Encourage healthy balanced habits; food, exercise etc.
  • Encourage contribution in areas they excel
  • Prepare for crisis
