When thoughts and actions are anxious and done compulsively, they are void of profound meaning, and we would be better off not performing them at all!
But both thoughts and actions can be consciously slowed down by being aware of their parts. By observing each subtle movement, each word, each letter, each shape of each letter, even the thought that interprets becomes noticeable, apart from the visual phenomena.
Words and actions which on a surface level look the same can be experienced in a completely different manner after slowing down.
When slowing down, the goal is to become completely present and profoundly understand. Criticism and ego is usually intermingled with the self, but can be observed as apart from the self and be dissolved. When it happens, it is deeply rewarding, an experience which can be felt as being beyond the body.
